Saturday evening marked the beginning of Passover, a Jewish holiday recounting the story of the Exodus. Jewish music has been a formative part of both of our cultural and spiritual identities, so we thought it was only right to share some of the songs we sing at our Seders (the ritual storytelling and meal), Seders around the world, and a few songs that are simply special to our Jewish identity. Our weekly Friday fresh list reeling in some of our favorite catches of the day!

This week’s Lazy Susan is focused on music by Asian and Pacific Islander artists! Most people have probably heard about the mass shooting in Atlanta, GA that resulted in the murders of six Asian women. The intersectional concern of racism, sexism, and gun control is starting to be given more space for conversation (specifically on social media). Hopefully that means these discussions are taking place between friends and family, ideally through verbal conversation along with posts and texts, with the goal of bringing awareness to these issues on a higher political level. The Clean Plate Club doesn’t feel like it should be us doing the talking and we’re not really qualified to engage in political commentary, but you don’t need to understand every facet of an issue to recognize when human rights are being violated and take a position. Although we don’t feel like the political end is our domain, music most certainly is. Art alone might not be what solves an issue of inequity, but it greatly informs how we as a society envision the world we live in. Societal awareness relies on immediate feedback, if we don’t see it, it doesn’t exist. We hope our playlist can help people recognize these musical geniuses and integrate them into the world we envision for ourselves.
